Derick Fang, Co-President
Derick is a senior at Stuyvesant High School. He’s a football player, saxophone musician, and an avid advocate for education equality. Since the beginning of his high school career, Derick has worked tirelessly as a student and volunteer tutor to bridge the educational gap within New York City. Starting as a Communications Director, Derick recruited over 100+ tutors for SSS and grew what was a small club of ambitious and caring students into a large organization with a significant message. Once elevated to co-president, he and Jonah Keller pioneered an initiative to support those who were severely impacted by the pandemic by providing free tutoring services to 70+ ESL and summer school students. Derick vows to continue and expand SSS’s services and impact to more schools and hopes to contribute significantly to underserved communities throughout the city.
Jonah Keller, Co-President
Jonah Keller is a senior at Stuyvesant High School. Like Derick, he’s a football player at Stuyvesant high school, captaining the team at the quarterback position. When he’s not in the classroom or on the field, he’s likely conducting neuroscience research at Columbia University. He spends his free time playing piano and walking his dog, Sparky.
Leeker Lin, Co-Vice President
Leeker Lin is a senior at Stuyvesant High School. He has been doing volunteer work since he was 13, volunteering at the McKinley Park Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. It was here where Leeker gained an admiration for those who are brave enough to teach young children, while looking up to the librarians and other volunteer teachers. In 2018, Leeker joined the Stuyvesant Study Society. Leeker started off as a tutor for students at IS126Q. Eventually, after 2 years of dedicated work and experience he became a co-vice president of SSS. In his new found leadership he was instrumental in organizing our summer programs for over 60 students from historically disadvantaged communities. Leeker’s dedication and amazing work ethic served him well not only as a vice president but also when he supported his family by working at Frozen Sweet, a local ice cream store.
Max Koster, Co-Vice President
Max is also a senior at Stuyvesant High School. When he’s not studying, he’s likely playing sports or spending time with friends or family. His role at for Stuyvesant Study Society is just one of the many volunteering experiences he currently participates in; he also volunteers via his school’s ARISTA organization. His other extracurriculars consist of writing for The Spectator, his school’s newspaper, along with playing for Stuyvesant’s Varsity soccer team, and managing his school’s Wellness Council along with a multitude of other extracurriculars.
